چکیده
We study reductive subgroups $H$ of a linear algebraic group $G$ -- possibly non-connected such that contains regular unipotent element $G$. show under suitable hypotheses, are $G$-irreducible in the sense Serre. This generalizes results Malle, Testerman and Zalesski. obtain analogous for Lie algebras finite groups type. Our proofs short, conceptual uniform.

Computing in Unipotent and Reductive Algebraic Groups
The unipotent groups are an important class of algebraic groups. We show that techniques used to compute with finitely generated nilpotent groups carry over to unipotent groups. We concentrate particularly on the maximal unipotent subgroup of a split reductive group and show how this improves computation in the reductive group itself.

Let G be a connected reductive group defined over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p > 0. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, when p is a good prime, we give a new proof of the “order formula” of D. Testerman for unipotent elements in G; moreover, we show that the same formula determines the p-nilpotence degree of the corresponding nilpotent elements in the Lie algebr...
متن کاملOn Unipotent Supports of Reductive Groups With a Disconnected Centre
Let G be a simple algebraic group defined over a finite field of good characteristic, with associated Frobenius endomorphism F. In this article we extend an observation of Lusztig, (which gives a numerical relationship between an ordinary character of GF and its unipotent support), to the case where Z(G) is disconnected. We then use this observation in some applications to the ordinary characte...
متن کاملOvergroups of Elementary Symplectic Groups
Let R be a commutative ring, and let l ≥ 2; for l = 2 it is assumed additionally that R has no residue fields of two elements. The subgroups of the general linear group GL(n,R) that contain the elementary symplectic group Ep(2l, R) are described. In the case where R = K is a field, similar results were obtained earlier by Dye, King, and Shang Zhi Li. In the present paper we consider a descripti...
متن کاملOvergroups of Irreducible Linear Groups, Ii
Determining the subgroup structure of algebraic groups (over an algebraically closed field K of arbitrary characteristic) often requires an understanding of those instances when a group Y and a closed subgroup G both act irreducibly on some module V , which is rational for G and Y . In this paper and in Overgroups of irreducible linear groups, I (J. Algebra 181 (1996), 26–69), we give a classif...
